INTRODUCTION

Our Mission

"As the national charity in Scotland which works to protect and enhance existing national parks and to promote the case for new national parks, we will use our experience and skills to ensure that best planning and land management practices, internationally recognised, are adopted and maintained throughout Scotland's national park system
.
"

Scottish council for national parksThe initial core campaign aim of SCNP has been achieved. Primary legislation to establish national parks in Scotland has been enacted. But it is clear that much remains to be done if Scottish National Parks are to achieve their full potential as areas with the highest standards of conservation management, the best sustainable development models and park communities in harmony with their environment.
SCNP has been in existence for 58 years but it was only in 2001 that charitable status was granted. As a new charity with new primary legislation to support its raison d'etre, the time is opportune to re-appraise the environment in which SCNP operates.

Scottish council for national parksSCNP's Strategic Plan will enable it to play a central role in harnessing the strengths and resources of the voluntary sector to advocate best practice in the establishment and management of national parks in Scotland. It will campaign for change where needed at government, local government and agency level and will seek to engender better awareness amongst the public at large of the issues and concerns affecting national parks.

Like many charitable bodies the Council will be fundamentally dependant on external sources of funding from individuals, public and private sectors (you can join us here).
